"Shayari" is essentially a two hander from Ron Blake (saxophone) and Michael Cain (piano/ producer) with star support from Christian McBride (bass), Jack DeJohnette (drums), Regina Carter (violin) and Gilmar Gomes (perscussion) added sparingly and just where required. The overall feel is somewhat similar to the 'less is more' approach of Marty Ehrlich and Myra Melford's recent album "Spark!" and has the same virtue of leaving space for the imagination to work on its evocative themes. Only here all but one track is a different trio chosen as Ron Blake and Michael Cain plus one of the above musicians.

The title refers to a Hindi or Urdu short form of poetry not dissimilar from the better known Japanese Haiku. The attempt of such poetry to convey universal understanding within an extreme simplicity is a very apt metaphor for the approach taken in this music.

The trio with Christian McBride "What Is Your Prayer For?" is a clear winner for out and out beauty while the trio with Jack DeJohnette "Hanuman" wins the day for drive and intensity. Regina Carter's feature on violin ('"Of Kindred Souls") features fine almost dissonant harmonies with saxophone before settling into a satisfyingly bluesy groove. Some of the most memorable tracks ("Waltz For Gwen", "Come Sun" and "The Island") feature percussionist Gilmar Gomes as the third musician and this seems to be particularly in keeping with the shayari theme. "Remember The Rain" is a short Coltrane–like sax/piano duet.

The album is memorable, very cool and likely to put Ron Blake and Michael Cain fully on the map as a major creative jazz partnership.

19 is Adele's debut album. It was released on 28 January 2008, the week after the lead single, "Chasing Pavements", was physically released. It debuted at number one on the UK charts on its first week.

While she's a fresh and exotic voice on the recording scene, the multi-talented, Italian-born, internationally minded singer and musician has been keeping great company. With a vocal range and style that quickly bring Dianne Reeves to mind, she's recorded with Tony Bennett and James Taylor; so impressed Burt Bacharach that he collaborated here on the lush, emotional ballad "Trouble"; snagged legendary rock producer Russ Titelman to helm the recording; and is roundly adored by no less than '80s pop queen Cyndi Lauper, who crowed, "This record is haunting and she's just fantastic...her voice just captivates you." What Cyndi says. Civello's not quite as crisp vocally as Lizz Wright, but her jazz-soul heart is in the same place while traversing many borders -- singing in English, Italian, and Portuguese. While gently swinging numbers like the Brazilian-flavored, hypnotic "Ora" are more compelling, slower and smokier tunes like "Parole Incerte" offer her deepest modes of expression. Her skills as a songwriter are firmly on display, but she chooses a few interesting, somewhat obscure covers in samba-flavored cuts like Suzanne Vega's graceful "Caramel" and Rosa Passos/Fernando DeOliveira's "Outono." An excellent drummer who has appeared in many types of settings, Idris Muhammad became a professional when he was 16. He played primarily soul and R&B during 1962-1964 and then spent 1965-1967 as a member of Lou Donaldson's band. He was the house drummer at Prestige Records (1970-1972), appearing on many albums as a sideman. Of his later jazz associations, Muhammad played with Johnny Griffin (1978-1979), Pharoah Sanders in the 1980s, George Coleman, and the Paris Reunion Band (1986-1988). He has recorded everything from post-bop to dance music as a leader for such labels as Prestige, Kudu, Fantasy, Theresa, and Lipstick.

Idris Muhammad (born November 13, 1939 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is a jazz drummer. He was born Leo Morris on November 13, 1939 before changing his name in the 1960s upon his conversion to Islam. He is known for his funky playing style. He has released a number of albums as leader, and has played with a number of jazz legends including Lou Donaldson, Johnny Griffin, Pharoah Sanders and Grover Washington, Jr. He has been touring and recording pianist Ahmad Jamal since 1995.

In 1966, he married Dolores "LaLa" Brooks (former member of the Crystals; she converted to Islam with him and went for a time under the name Sakinah Muhammad). They separated in 1999. Together, they have two sons and two daughters. Muhammad is an endorser of Istanbul Agop Cymbals.

Satu bumi, banyak manusia dan berbagai bunyian. Bunyi-bunyian itu memperindah kehidupan, dan mempersatukan. Mendamaikan. Asia punya begitu banyak bunyi2an yang kaya ragam dan pesona.
Gimana jika semua ini digabungkan dalam satu bahasa yang namanya jazz...?

Alkisah , tahun 1979 om Lewis Pragasam (drummer & percussionist), suku india tamil warganegara Malaysia punya ide mengkombinasikan berbagai jenis musik dan rhythm etnik. Ide ini terinspirasi dari multi kultural penduduk Malaysia, spt kita jg. Proyek ini sekian puluh tahun kemudian berkembang, terutama setelah mendapat dukungan dari produser asal Indonesia, Gita Wirjawan. Dari asalnya, yang melibatkan multikultural malaysia, berkembang jadi sebuah mega proyek yang melibatkan puluhan musisi asia dari berbagai negara, bahkan didukung bbrp musisi dari luar Asia. Dari kita? ada Tompi, yg bukan hanya sumbang suara, tapi juga sumbang satu komposisi lagu. Album ethnic jazz luar biasa yg memaksimalkan berbagai ethnic music Asia, mulai dari gamelan, sampai india, cina dan jepang. This is an amazing project. Paduan segala jenis dan ragam musik etnis dilebur sempurna kedalam jazz fusion yg keren banget. Kalau kita terbiasa dengan jenis etnik musiknya Krakatau era milenium yang tampil nge-jawa, Simak Dialog , atau Bali Lounge nya Tompi (Bali Lounge dan Tompi juga diangkat oleh Gita Wirjawan, dan om Lewis adalah drummer disana). kali ini area musik yang ditawarkan jauh lebih luas dengan merambah musik2 asia secara total. Bayangkan, disini ada dan bau (alat musik tradisional cina), dhol dan vokal india suku sikh dan hindi, ada suling bambu, picolo, sampai sample gamelan elektronik. Spektakuler, kreatif dan jenius. Kalau aja semua bangsa di dunia bisa bersatu dan tampil kompak dalam keragaman spt ini, bayangkan gimana indah dan damainya dunia..

Secara pintar Lewis Pragasam menggambarkan jenis musiknya dengan analogi sederhana.

Bobby Caldwell adalah seorang penulis lagu kawakan, penyanyi dan musisi yg mampu main beberapa jenis instrumen musik (termasuk drum) asal Amerika. Caldwell ini unik, dia lebih tenar di Jepang ketimbang di negara asalnya. Album2nya juga dirilis lebih awal di Jepang ketimbang di Amrik,bahkan beberapa cuma dirilis di Jepang. Ketika di Amrik dia seperti terlupakan, di Jepang dia masih menyandang status superstar. Bobby sejak tahun 90an awal hingga kini menetap di Jepang, bersama istri dan sepasang anak kembarnya. Suaranya yg khas, dgn tone oktaf tinggi (rada mirip Peter Cetera) emang asik bgt buat nyanyi jazz, terutama untuk jenis Contemporary Jazz spt stylenya.

Bassist/composer Avishai Cohen was one of the jazz musicians from Israel to gain attention in the U.S. He has played with Chick Corea, Latin bands, pop artist Alicia Keys, and has performed concert works with the London Philharmonic and Boston Pops. He started his own record label in 2003.

This disc may look like the same old piano trio, but it’s not. Pianist Maestro has a similar background to Cohen’s - being trained in both classical and jazz piano. Both are experienced with a wide spectrum of jazz, but also influenced by the musics of North Africa and the Middle East, which gives their work a special world music tinge that differs from the Scandinavian folk influences on some European jazz. Two of the 11 tracks here are based on traditional folk melodies, two are collaborations of the entire trio and all the rest are original by Cohen.
